Seek First - Seek Him
Have you ever found yourself striving to be first in something, whether it's a competition, a job, or even just in line at a coffee shop? We all have this inner desire to be first, to stand out, and to achieve. But Jesus teaches us something profound in Matthew 6:33, where He says, "But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you."
Jesus is redirecting our focus here. Instead of seeking to be first in the ways the world values, He invites us to prioritize His kingdom. This doesn't mean our needs or desires are unimportant, but rather that when we put God first, everything else falls into its proper place. It's about letting go of worry, knowing that our heavenly Father is aware of our needs and will provide.
We see this beautifully illustrated in the story of Mary and Martha (Luke 10:38-42). While Martha was busy with preparations, Mary chose to sit at Jesus' feet and listen to Him. Jesus acknowledged that Mary had chosen what was better. This isn't to say that Martha's work wasn't valuable, but it was a reminder that our relationship with Jesus should always come first.
In our busy lives, it's easy to get caught up in doing things for God, rather than spending time with God. But Jesus invites us to choose what is better—seeking Him first, and letting everything else be added in due time.
Pray With Me!
Lord, help me to seek You first in all that I do. Teach me to trust in Your provision and to focus on building my relationship with You. May my heart prioritize Your kingdom, and may I find peace in knowing that You will take care of everything I need. Amen.
Let's Reflect:
What are some things in your life that you tend to worry about, and how can you surrender them to God? In what ways can you prioritize spending time with Jesus in your daily routine? How does seeking God's kingdom first change your perspective on your daily tasks and responsibilities?
