SALVATION AT SHORELINE
What is Salvation?
Salvation is a gift from God to mankind. We can never make up for our sin by self-improvement or good works. Only through Jesus’ death on the cross when he took every sin upon himself (1 Peter 2:24) can we be forgiven and saved from sin’s penalty. Eternal life begins the moment we receive Jesus Christ into our life by faith.
Learning about who Jesus is and the significance of his ministry and resurrection is a vital part of Christianity. The best way to learn about him is through the Bible, God’s written Word to all mankind. It is the supreme source of truth for Christian beliefs and living and because it is inspired by God, we honor and abide by the Word as the ultimate truth for our faith.

Reading the Word
We believe the Word of God is a lamp to our feet, a light to our path (Ps. 119:105) at Shoreline Church. Hebrews tells us, “the word of God is living and active, sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing to the division of soul and of spirit, of joints and marrow, and discerning the thoughts and intentions of the heart (Heb. 4:12).”
We primarily use the NIV version in our services across our campuses. Though there are many versions of the Bible, they all tell the same transformational message of God sending his son, Jesus, to give us new life. Other versions we recommend are ESV for a word-for-word translation and NLT for a paraphrased translation.
You can order bibles from Mardel or Amazon online or stop by our Welcome Centers at our North and South campuses to get a bible on Sunday.

Top 10 Things to Know
- This is the best decision of your life.
Nothing and no one will satisfy the innate need we have for God. He is our Creator, Provider, Redeemer, our Eternal Life and more! God is preparing you for your eternal home to come (2 Cor. 5:9) and Christ has set you free for a victorious life now (Gal. 5:1).
- God will make himself known to you through His word.
The Bible is God’s written Word to His people. It gives us a reliable picture of who He is and what He has done for us. By becoming familiar with Him and His ways, our heart and mind will be transformed into His image (Rom. 12:2).
- You are completely and totally forgiven through Jesus.
Your decision to surrender to Christ makes you right with God. Christ died a death we deserved to pay for our sin (Rom. 5:8) and we are spiritually washed clean. Our sins are never remembered by God again (Ps. 103:12).
- God can hear and see all things. Talk to Him and He will listen!
Prayer is how we communicate with God. As you read His word, His voice will become more familiar to you. Your concerns and dreams matter to him (1 Pt. 5:7). He is Creator of all and nothing is hidden from His sight (Heb. 4:13).
- There is a cost to following Jesus.
Being a follower of Christ means you are not of the world but set apart from the world. There is an enemy out to steal, kill, and destroy and persecution while walking in faith is sure to come (Mt. 10:16). But take heart, Jesus has overcome!
- God has given us community so that we don’t walk this journey alone.
Being a Christian does not exempt us from the hardship we will experience. We joyfully worship, pray and learn together as a congregation (Heb. 10:25) and gather in smaller life groups to encourage, support and share life's burdens and victories.
- You can (and should!) publicly affirm your decision by being baptized.
Baptism is a demonstration of our old self dying and our new self rising, it is an outward expression of an inward change. Baptism is not only Biblically prescribed and personally meaningful (Acts 2:38), it’s also an encouragement to those around you.
- You have an important contribution to make.
Every Christian is entrusted with a certain amount of time, talent, and treasure (1 Pt. 4:10). We honor God best by using these resources to make a positive difference in the world by generously serving and giving.
- You will see God for who He is through worship.
Get in the habit of noticing and expressing thanks for God’s faithfulness in your day to day experiences. Many have found it helpful to begin each day journaling three points of gratitude (Ps. 103:2). Another way people worship God is through music.
- Only Jesus is perfect; you don’t have to be.
Every believer has sinned and fallen short of the glory of God (Rom. 3:23). While we strive for obedience we certainly are not disqualified by sin along the way. Stay the journey and ask for help from God, your pastors and your trusted community when you need it.
