The Unexpected Jesus - The Friend
When we think about friends, we often imagine those who are there for us in both good times and bad, someone who truly knows us and still loves us. Imagine, then, the creator of the universe, Jesus, as your friend. Not just a distant deity, but a friend who is there for you, listens to you, and walks with you through life.
In John 15:15, Jesus says, "I no longer call you servants, because a servant does not know his master's business. Instead, I have called you friends." This is an incredible truth: Jesus, who knows every part of you—your strengths, weaknesses, joys, and sorrows—wants to be your friend.
Jesus didn't just preach from a distance; He lived among the people, sharing in their lives. He attended weddings, had close friends like Lazarus, and reached out to those society rejected, like Zacchaeus and Matthew. He wasn't looking for perfect people; He was looking for those who needed a friend.
Just like Jesus, we are called to be friends to others. We are to take the initiative, make time for those in need, and open our hearts to genuine love. Friendship in Christ is about more than companionship—it's about being there for one another, reflecting the love that Jesus has for us.
Let's Reflect:
How can you be more intentional in your friendships, reflecting the love of Jesus? In what ways have you experienced Jesus as a friend in your own life? Who in your life might need you to be a friend like Jesus—someone who takes the initiative, listens, and loves unconditionally?
Pray with Me!
Dear Jesus, thank you for being my friend, for loving me unconditionally, and for always being there for me. Help me to be a true friend to others, to reflect your love in all my relationships, and to be there for those who need a friend. Guide my heart to be open, compassionate, and ready to serve. Amen.
