The Unexpected Jesus - The Physician
Jesus referred to Himself as a physician in both Mark 2 and Luke 5, describing Himself as a doctor for those who are sick. Luke 4:23 even quotes Him saying, "Physician, heal yourself!" right after He proclaims His mission to bring recovery of sight to the blind. His role as a healer wasn't just a part of His past; it's part of who He is eternally.
We are wonderfully complex beings, made up of spirit, soul, and body. God, the Great Physician, cares about the health of each part of us. He heals naturally, medically, and supernaturally.
Why does Jesus heal? Because He is moved with compassion. He doesn't heal to show off His power but because He genuinely cares. Mark 1:41-42 shows us this when a leper came to Him, and Jesus, moved with compassion, healed him.
Is Jesus willing to heal us today? Absolutely. Mark 1:40-41 tells of a leper who questioned if Jesus was willing. Jesus' response was simple and profound: "I am willing."
But why aren't all healed immediately? This is a complex issue, but remember, healing can be immediate, over time, or in the resurrection. We live in a fallen world with its challenges, but God's promise of healing remains. Sometimes, our healing journey is also a process of faith and trust in God's timing.
Pray With Me!
Dear Lord, thank You for being our Great Physician. We ask for Your healing touch on our bodies, minds, and spirits. Help us to trust in Your compassion and Your timing. Guide the hands of those who provide medical care, and give us faith to believe in Your supernatural power. In Jesus' name, Amen.
Let's Reflect:
How have you experienced God's healing in your life, whether naturally, medically, or supernaturally? In what ways can we trust God's timing and process when it comes to healing? How can we support others in their journey toward healing and faith?
