The Trellis and the Cross | FDF

Imagine a grapevine without a trellis. It's tangled, messy, and struggling to grow. But with the right support? It flourishes, stretches upward, bears fruit, and thrives. That's what our spiritual lives are like. Without a plan—without structure—we can end up flat on the ground. But with a trellis, or a spiritual support system, we grow strong and fruitful.

Becoming a Fully Devoted Follower of Jesus means not just wanting to grow—but choosing to. It's not just about believing, it's about building. We build a life that lifts our faith off the ground. That's where rhythms like Sabbath, prayer, community, generosity, and service come in.

But here's the thing—having a plan isn't the point. The plan just makes space for what really matters: being with Jesus, becoming like Him, and doing what He would do if He were you. It's not about perfection. It's about presence.

And that's where the cross comes in. Jesus said if we want to follow Him, we have to deny ourselves, take up our cross, and follow daily. That's not about carrying burdens—it's about surrender. Letting go of our way, our plans, and trusting Him to lead.

Pray With Us!

Jesus, thank You for inviting me into a life that's more than busy schedules and spiritual checklists. I want to be with You, become like You, and live like You. Help me to make the right choices—to build a life that supports my faith and to surrender everything that holds me back. Today, I choose You. Amen.

Let's Reflect:

What are some choices I've made lately that are helping—or hindering—my connection with Jesus? What could my "spiritual trellis" look like in this season of life? Is there something I need to surrender at the cross today to grow as a fully devoted follower?
