Making the Awkward Awesome | Dear Church

Have you ever stopped to think about what makes life "real"? In a world full of fake news and AI-generated everything, it's easy to wonder: Is it real? What makes it real? And how do we know when something's the real deal?

Sometimes, it can feel like faith doesn't fit neatly into real life—like trying to fit a square peg into a round hole. But here's the thing—faith was meant for real life. It's not just some abstract, churchy concept. Faith is for life's messy, awkward, and sometimes downright uncomfortable parts.

I like to think of it this way: Life is full of awkward moments, but God has a way of turning those moments into something awesome. And that's where I want to go today—making the awkward awesome with our faith.

Real life isn't perfect. It's not all sunshine and rainbows. In fact, life is often full of awkward moments. For instance, take the first time you meet someone new. At first, it's a little awkward, right? Maybe there's that awkward handshake or that slightly off-balance small talk. But over time, those awkward moments can turn into awesome ones.

In 1 Thessalonians 1:5-9, Paul talks about the gospel coming to the people of Thessalonica not just in words, but in power. He shares how the Thessalonian church received the word of God "in much affliction." That's awkward. But here's the twist—they became examples of faith to the whole region through that affliction. Their faith wasn't just a story—it was something real, powerful, and awesome.

It's kind of like this: You've got this awkward moment, but because God's involved, it becomes awesome.

Our lives can feel like a rollercoaster of awkward and awesome moments. You meet someone special? Awesome! You meet their parents? Awkward! Are you making a big life decision? Awesome! But then you hit a setback? Awkward.

But here's the truth: God specializes in turning the awkward into awesome. Even when we don't see how it's going to happen, He's at work. Whether it's a messy situation at work, a tough relationship, or just the daily grind, God is present and can turn things around. He's not afraid of the awkward. He can turn your "affliction" into an "example of faith."

Life isn't just a series of awkward moments that never change. We serve a God who can alter our reality, just like He altered the world in Genesis 1. He doesn't just leave us in the awkward moments. He turns them into something awesome.

What awkwardness are you facing right now? Maybe God is ready to turn it into something amazing.

Pray With Us!

Lord, thank You for meeting us in the midst of our awkwardness. Thank You for not being afraid of the mess and for turning our challenges into opportunities for Your glory. Help us to trust You with the awkward parts of our lives, knowing that You can turn them into something awesome. Amen.

Let's Reflect:

What "awkward" situation are you facing right now that you need to trust God with? How have you seen God turn an awkward moment into something awesome in your past? How can you be more open to seeing God in your everyday challenges and changes?
