DAY 5 | Faith Hacks
Finding Peace in Seasons of Chaos
Too often in life it seems to always be something! One thing after another… Sickness, financial struggles, relational struggles, grief. It's always something and your life just feels like a chaotic mess. My most recent season of chaos has been navigating grief. A little over two years ago I lost my stepmom unexpectedly the week of Christmas. I was like, "God your son was born this week and then you take my stepmom from us." So many things were going on in my mind.
I didn't understand why this happened and I surely didn't understand why it happened the week of Christmas. I was angry, sad, and upset. For the rest of December and beginning of the new year, chaos consumed me. I just couldn't handle it and I finally got to a point where I was so broken from it all.
The only thing I knew to do was pray. So, I asked God to help me find peace, joy and most importantly for the ability to trust His plan for my life, even when it didn't make sense right in that moment.
Isaiah 26:3 says, "You will keep in perfect peace those whose minds are steadfast because they trust in you." I had to learn to trust God's plan for my life. I had to know that God is for me and not against me. Every morning I had to speak this over myself, "Holy Spirit let your peace come over me and let your joy be my strength throughout this entire day." I also had to surrender my thoughts, my grief, and my ways to God in order to trust His thoughts/plans.
Lastly, I also had to worship and thank God for his goodness and reflect on past seasons of my life where he's shown his goodness. I love this lyric in the song Firm Foundation:
I've still got joy in chaos. I've got peace that makes no sense. So, I won't be going under. I'm not held by my own strength. Cause I've built my life on Jesus. He's never let me down. He's faithful in every season. So why would He fail now? He won't.
Think about those lyrics. Let them rest in your heart. He's been faithful in every season so even when chaos comes His goodness remains. We will have peace and joy throughout it all if we are connecting to God. Today I want to encourage you that no matter what your season of chaos looks like to always bring the Holy Spirit into the mix. He will guide you and give you supernatural peace. He's got your back.
Prayer
Lord, I thank you for your peace that surpasses all understanding. I thank you that your peace is comforting. I thank you for every season that you have for my life and I pray that I can trust you with those plans. I ask that your peace will cover me and everyone around me when we face chaotic seasons. In Jesus name, amen.
Reflection
Can you think of a season of your life where it was chaotic? In what ways can you find peace when chaotic seasons come? Think of a daily affirmation/ prayer to say when you need peace.
