DAY 20 | Faith Hacks
Intentionally Seeking God
I love spending time with my daughter. She's 3 months old and is the absolute light of my life. Between her adorable coos and heart-warming smile, I'm constantly smitten with her.
There are times that I hear my phone chime when I'm with her, and I'll quickly pick up my phone to see who or what needs me. I suddenly feel a twinge of guilt in my heart as I see her big eyes staring at me past my phone, as it quite literally is the only thing between us in that moment. I set my phone down, I look into her eyes, and I choose her. I choose to be intentional with her. I choose to engage in her world, to get to know her, to be content with something that, to our hustling and hard-working culture, might seem unproductive or inefficient. To play, smile, sit, carry, rock and then willingly choose do it all over again.
When it feels like the world is pulling us in a thousand different directions, it's important that we know how to put our full focus into one thing. When spending time with God, it's vital that we approach Him with an attitude that is prepared to be intentional and engaging with Him. Let's leave our agendas at the door. What does HE want us to read? What does HE want to tell us?
God deserves our uninterrupted and unwavering attention. Come with your questions and prayers but stay long enough for an answer.
Affirmation
Today I choose to intentionally seek you Lord, I choose to set aside my agenda in order truly hear your voice.
Reflection
How can I be more intentional with God? What are some things that take my focus away from God? How can I prepare my attitude and environment to be distraction-free, so I can be more intentional with Him?
I encourage you to read the entirety of Psalm 27 along with this devotional, but wanted to throw in a couple of my favorite verses from this chapter:
Psalms 27:4 NLT The one thing I ask of the Lord—the thing I seek most—is to live in the house of the Lord all the days of my life, delighting in the Lord's perfections and meditating in his Temple.
Psalms 27:7-8 NLT Hear me as I pray, O Lord. Be merciful and answer me! My heart has heard you say, "Come and talk with me." And my heart responds, "Lord, I am coming."
Psalms 27:14 NLT Wait patiently for the Lord. Be brave and courageous. Yes, wait patiently for the Lord.
