The Missing Peace - When Missing Peace is a Good Thing
Have you ever felt unsettled, like something just wasn't quite right? Maybe a relationship, a decision, or even just the state of the world has left you feeling a little restless. That feeling, though uncomfortable, could actually be a gift from God.
Think about it. Missing peace—when it's rooted in God's purposes—can lead to a profound transformation in our lives. It's what we call a "holy discontent." It's that tug in your heart that says, "This isn't the way it's supposed to be," and it motivates you to step out and make a difference. God Himself felt this holy dissatisfaction when He saw humanity's brokenness. That's why He sent Jesus—the Prince of Peace—to rescue us. Isaiah 9:6-7 reminds us of this profound truth: "For to us a child is born... and he will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace."
Missing peace also acts as a safeguard in our lives, protecting us from harm and guiding us toward better choices. Think of the wise men in the Christmas story—they knew something wasn't right with King Herod. Their unease, their "missing peace," saved them from returning to Herod after they worshiped Jesus.
Finally, missing peace can lead us to real peace when we stop looking for fulfillment in the wrong places. Like the wise men, we might think we'll find peace in a palace or in a picture-perfect Christmas. But true peace comes when we find Jesus—when we worship Him and give Him our hearts. The giving of ourselves, our kindness, and even our forgiveness bring us closer to that deep, lasting peace we crave.
So, if you're feeling unsettled this Christmas, don't ignore it. Let it guide you closer to God. He might be using that holy discontent to move you toward His perfect plan.
Pray With Us!
Lord, thank You for the gift of peace and for even using the times we feel unsettled to draw us closer to You. Help us to recognize when our missing peace is a nudge from You, leading us to make changes, protect ourselves, or seek You more deeply. This Christmas, we ask for Your true peace to fill our hearts as we keep You at the center of it all. In Jesus' name, Amen.
Let's Reflect:
Can you think of a time when you felt unsettled or experienced "missing peace"? How did you respond, and what did you learn from that experience? How can holy discontentment motivate us to make a difference in our families, communities, or the world? Have you ever looked for peace in the wrong places? What helped you redirect your focus back to God?
