The Missing Peace - Christmas Peace
One of the promises of Christmas is peace. Not the temporary kind we try to find in circumstances, but real, lasting peace. Isaiah called Jesus the "Prince of Peace" hundreds of years before He was born (Isaiah 9:6). When the angels announced His birth, they said, "Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace, goodwill toward men!" (Luke 2:14). Peace wasn't just part of the message—it was the reason for the message.
But let's break it down—what kind of peace are we talking about? The Bible highlights three kinds of peace we need: peace with God, peace with ourselves, and peace with others. They build on each other, starting with the most foundational: peace with God.
Peace with God is the starting point. Without it, we're always in turmoil, even if everything on the outside seems fine. Romans 5:1 says, "Since we have been declared righteous by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ." Christmas is all about God making peace with us through Jesus, taking away our sins so we can live in relationship with Him.
Next comes peace within ourselves—the peace of God. Once you've made peace with God, you can begin to experience His peace ruling in your heart (Colossians 3:15). This peace is deeper than anything the world offers. Whether it's a broken heart, confusion, or worry, God's peace is there for every situation. It's not about ignoring problems but trusting God through them.
Finally, there's peace with others. When we experience God's peace, it changes how we relate to people. It helps us forgive, let go of grudges, and build bridges instead of walls. Ephesians 2:16 says that through the cross, Jesus brought us together, ending hostility and giving us the ability to embrace one another.
So, how do we receive this peace? It starts with three steps: Open your mind to clarity. Sometimes, we just need that "aha" moment where we see things as they are. Clarity comes when we look to God and let Him reveal the truth about our situation, our needs, and His love. Open your heart with humility. Peace begins with saying, "God, I can't do this on my own." Pride keeps us stuck, but humility invites God in to do what only He can. Open your life in trust. Jesus said, "Come to me... and I will give you rest" (Matthew 11:28-29). Trusting Him means letting Him carry the load, learning His ways, and walking this life with Him.
This Christmas, let's seek the peace that only Jesus can give—peace with God, within ourselves, and with others. He's ready to meet you where you are.
Pray With Us!
Lord, thank You for the gift of peace that comes through Jesus. Open my eyes to see things clearly, humble my heart to receive Your help, and teach me to trust You with every part of my life. May Your peace fill me and overflow to those around me. Amen.
Let's Reflect:
What does "peace with God" mean to you personally, and how have you experienced it? How can you cultivate the "peace of God" in your heart when life feels overwhelming? Are there any relationships where you feel a lack of peace? How might God's peace help you move toward reconciliation?
