The Gift of Mom
Pastor Laura often reminisces about the shift from her orderly professional life to the whirlwind of motherhood. She talks about how she used to thrive on structure and quiet, but then life got loud and messy—diapers everywhere, and endless laundry piles!
Irony gets the best of us all! This humorous snapshot of the chaos illustrates our transition into parenting. Motherhood and Fatherhood, for that matter, is no walk in the park; it's a rollercoaster that challenges and reshapes us deeply and daily.
The Apostle Paul might as well have been talking about motherhood when he wrote in Romans 7:15 about the internal conflict we all face—doing what we don't want to do, and not doing what we should. It's like he's describing the daily grind of parenting! And it's not just moms; it's a universal struggle with our better selves, battling against our frazzled, impatient sides.
Parenting pushes us to our limits and often beyond, forcing us to confront parts of ourselves we might not like. But it also brings out the best in us—patience, kindness, and unimaginable love. It teaches us to lean on God, recognizing that we can't do it alone.
This Mother's Day, let's celebrate it all; the messy and the beautiful. Let's carry the spirit of love and appreciation not just today, but every day, acknowledging the incredible impact of mothers in our own lives and our communities.
Pray with me!
Dear Lord, thank You for the incredible gift of moms. Help us to appreciate, honor, and love them as they reflect Your love in their daily sacrifices. Strengthen them, fill them with Your peace, and continue to guide them in Your wisdom. Amen.
Let's Reflect:
What is one lesson you've learned from a mother figure in your life that you see influencing your actions today? In what ways can you show appreciation to the mothers or mother figures in your community this week? How can we support those who might find Mother's Day difficult due to personal struggles or loss?
