Samson & Delilah | Against All Odds

Jeremiah was sent to a potter's house and watched clay being shaped on a wheel. When the clay was marred, the potter didn't throw it away. He reshaped it. Reworked it. Formed it into something useful. Then God spoke: "Like clay in the hand of the potter, so are you in My hand." (Jeremiah 18:6)

That's the safest place to be—on the Potter's wheel. In His hands, there is purpose, correction, shaping, and security. When life feels lonely, anxious, weak, or uncertain, the Potter is still forming something beautiful. Imperfections are not the end of the story. They are part of the shaping.

But there's another wheel—the unpredictable wheel of chance. Up one day, down the next. Winning, losing. Strong, then suddenly stuck. Samson's life shows how easy it is to drift from the Potter's wheel to the wheel of bondage. He was blessed. Empowered. Stirred by the Spirit. Created for greatness. Yet subtle attitudes slowly weakened him: I want it — unrestrained desire. I deserve it — entitlement. I can handle it — pride.

Those three lies quietly move strong people off the wheel of purpose and onto the wheel of destruction. The downfall didn't begin with Delilah. It began with patterns. And then comes one of the saddest verses in Scripture: "He did not know that the Lord had left him." (Judges 16:20)

Yet even in prison, grinding grain in chains, there was hope. Samson prayed, "Sovereign Lord, remember me. Strengthen me just once more." (Judges 16:28)

God answered.

He is the God of the "just once more." The God of second chances. The God who reshapes marred clay.

Pray With Me!

Sovereign Lord, shape this life according to Your will. Guard the heart from pride, entitlement, and unrestrained desire. Create deeper dependence, gratitude, and hunger for You alone. Strengthen just once more, and keep these feet firmly on the Potter's wheel. Amen.

Let's Reflect:

Which of these attitudes is most tempting right now: I want it, I deserve it, or I can handle it? What does staying on the Potter's wheel practically look like this season? Where might God be offering a "just once more" moment of grace and restoration?
