31 Day Challenge - Harness Your Strength
It's a brand-new year, and we're kicking it off right with our #31DayChallenge—31 days of doing HARD things in every area of our lives: spiritually, physically, mentally, and relationally. Today, we're focusing on the "H" in HARD: Harness Your Strength.
Getting healthy isn't easy, is it? Trust me, I know how tempting it is to put it off. There's always an excuse: "I'm too busy," "It's boring," or the classic, "I'm fine the way I am." But the truth is, investing in your health is one of the most impactful things you can do—for yourself, the people around you, and The Kingdom.
The Bible actually says quite a bit about our health. In 1 Corinthians 9:26-27, Paul writes, "I discipline my body and bring it into subjection." He's not talking about vanity or superficial fitness. He's saying that taking care of our physical selves allows us to live with purpose, energy, and focus. Similarly, 1 Timothy 4:8 reminds us that while spiritual fitness is the top priority, physical exercise still has value.
Why does good health matter? It enhances every aspect of our lives: It empowers us to serve others. When we're healthy, we have the energy and ability to help those in need without becoming a burden ourselves. It boosts our emotions and productivity. Feeling good physically makes us happier, less irritable, and more confident. It strengthens our relationships. Taking care of yourself shows love for your spouse, kids, and friends by giving them the best version of you. We love how 1 Corinthians 6:19-20 reminds us, "Your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit... you were bought at a price. Therefore, honor God with your body." Taking care of ourselves is an act of worship—it's a way to thank God for the incredible gift of life.
Don't bite off more than you can chew! Start simple. Prioritize quality food. Move your body daily. Drink water like it's your job. And please, get some sleep (nobody is nice when they're cranky)! These small, consistent choices can lead to big long-term changes.
Pray With Us!
Father, thank You for the gift of a new year and the opportunity to start fresh. Help us to honor You with our bodies, to steward the health You've given us, and to find joy in the process. Give us the strength, discipline, and focus to live healthier lives—not for vanity, but for Your glory. May our efforts give greater energy, love, and service to those around us. In Jesus' name, Amen.
Let's Reflect:
What's one health goal you've been putting off, and what step can you take today to move toward it? How does viewing your body as a temple of the Holy Spirit change your perspective on health and fitness? In what ways can better physical health help you serve others more effectively?
