31 Day Challenge - Demonstrate Love

Let's take a moment and look around. Seriously, turn your head and check out the people sitting around you. These are real people—no holograms, no perfect paper cutouts. They're beautifully flawed, just like you and me. Some of them you know well, and others you've never spoken to, but regardless of who they are to you, YOU are called to love them.

Love is the bottom line in Christianity. Just like in sports, where the score is what matters most, love is the measure of our faith. It's not about how creative our services are, how well our building is maintained, or even how talented our worship team is (though, IYKYK). At the end of the day, the score is love.

Jesus said it clearly in John 13:35: "By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another." It's not just about loving God or your friends/family but loving everyone. Yes, even the ones who make it difficult—your enemies, strangers, and that coworker who chooses to ignore the sticky note with your name on it in the fridge. Yup, even them.

Loving like Jesus isn't always easy. So, how do we do it? The answer is found in 1 John 4:19: "We love because He first loved us."

This verse gives us the power and the pattern to love others. God loved us first, sacrificially, and unconditionally. That's our fuel and our example.

Here's how we can follow His pattern: Love proactively. Take the first step. Don't wait to be loved; go love first. Whether it's your spouse, a neighbor, or someone you struggle to get along with, make the first move. Love unconditionally. Jesus loves us no matter what, and we're called to do the same. Even when people don't "deserve" it, love anyway. That's what makes it radical. Love generously. Love isn't cheap—it requires giving. Your time, your resources, your words. Jesus gave everything, and we're called to give what we can to bless others. Love perseveringly. Go the extra mile. Even when it's hard or inconvenient, love keeps showing up. Love sacrificially. True love costs something. It could be your time, comfort, or energy. Sometimes, it's as small as holding the door for someone, and sometimes it's as big as laying down your life, like Jesus did for us.

When we love this way we reflect God's love to the world. And trust me, the world needs this kind of love now more than ever.

Pray With Us!

Lord, thank You for loving us first. Your love changes us and gives us the strength to love others, even when it's hard. Help us to love like You—with generosity, perseverance, and sacrifice. May we see the people around us with Your eyes and live out Your love in action. Amen.

Let's Reflect:

What does "demonstrating God's love generously" look like in your everyday life? Which area—proactive, unconditional, generous, persevering, or sacrificial love—is the hardest for you to live out, and why? How has someone's act of love impacted you, and how can you pay that forward this week?
