Rise Above the Cycle

A Shorefest Devotional — Gideon, Part 1

Scripture: Judges 6:12

Israel was stuck in a cycle — forget God, fall into bondage, cry out, get rescued, and repeat. For seven years, Midian's oppression pushed them into hiding, scratching out a living while the enemy reaped what they planted. Sin has a way of doing that — making us vulnerable, spinning us around until we can't find the floor.

Maybe you know that feeling. A cycle of fear. A cycle of comparison. A cycle of just surviving instead of living.

"Midian so impoverished the Israelites that they cried out to the Lord for help." — Judges 6:6

The cycle broke when Israel cried out — not a quiet, composed prayer, but a za'aq, a desperate cry from the gut. Not eloquent. Not polished. Just honest.

And God answered — in an ordinary moment. Gideon wasn't looking for God. He was threshing wheat, hiding from the enemy, just trying to get through the day. That's when the angel of the Lord sat down under the oak nearby, and everything changed.

"The Lord is with you, mighty warrior." — Judges 6:12

That's what God said to a man hiding in fear. And it's what He says to you.

Your worth isn't your bank account, your achievements, your social media, or your appearance. Your worth is what God was willing to pay for you.

"For God so loved the world that He gave His one and only Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish but have eternal life." — John 3:16

It's time to break the cycle of defeat and win the battle.

Prayer: God, I cry out to You today — not with perfect words, but with an honest heart. Break the cycle in my life. Remind me that my worth isn't in what I've done or what others think of me, but in what You paid for me. I am Yours, and I will rise above.
