Lazarus | Crossed Paths

The story of Lazarus is more than a moment in history; it is a picture of how Jesus meets people in the middle of what feels hopeless and breathes life again.

When Mary and Martha sent word to Jesus, they didn't list accomplishments or make arguments. They simply said, "the one you love is sick." They understood something foundational: everything rests on the love of Jesus. That same truth still stands today... God is deeply, personally, relentlessly in love with people.

Not distant. Not indifferent. When loss hits, when grief is heavy, when something feels gone for good—Jesus is moved. He weeps. He cares.

Lazarus had been dead for four days, completely gone. No hope left. And yet, that's exactly where Jesus steps in. Because what feels final to people is not final to God. There are moments when life feels like a dead end: relationships strained, purpose unclear, faith worn thin, hearts numb. Those places are real. But they are not beyond the reach of Jesus.

Before the miracle, Jesus gave an instruction: "Take away the stone." There was a part for the people to play. Obedience in the natural made room for the supernatural. The same is true now. Trusting God often looks like small steps of faith—opening the heart again, speaking truth over discouragement, choosing to believe even when it feels uncertain.

Then Jesus spoke directly to what was dead: "Lazarus, come out." And life returned.

But the story didn't end there. Lazarus walked out still wrapped in grave clothes, and others helped remove them. Freedom came through community. This is the beauty of belonging—people walking together, helping each other step fully into new life. Grace, not perfection, is what marks the journey.

And when life change happens, it doesn't stay hidden. People are drawn to it. A transformed life becomes an invitation: "Come and see." No pressure. No arguments. Just a story of what Jesus has done.

Because when dead things come to life, it points people straight to Him.

Let's Reflect:

What in life right now feels "dead" or beyond hope? What step of faith might God be asking to take to "roll away the stone"? Who could be invited to "come and see" what Jesus is doing?

Pray With Me!

Jesus, thank You for loving so deeply and meeting people in every place of need. Bring life to what feels dead and hope to what feels lost. Give courage to take steps of faith and surround with the right people for support and freedom. Let every changed life point others back to You. Amen.
