I Am the Way | Therefore I Am
Have you ever taken a wrong turn and found yourself completely lost? Maybe it was on a road trip, or you thought you knew the directions to a friend's house, but somehow ended up on a detour that made you feel like you were never going to find your way again. For me, it was once on a hike in Colorado. I was anxious, tired, and ready to give up. I kept asking, "Where's the way out of this mess?"
In those moments, we long for clear directions, don't we? We want a simple "take a left here, go straight for a mile, and you'll be there." But life isn't always that simple. Sometimes, when we're lost, we just want a map or a set of instructions, don't we?
The disciples, much like us, were confused the night before Jesus died. They had followed Him for years, but now He was talking about leaving, and they didn't understand what was happening. It's in this moment, in the middle of their anxiety and uncertainty, that Jesus says something powerful: "I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me." (John 14:6)
Jesus didn't give them a map or a step-by-step guide. He didn't point them toward a location. He gave them Himself. He says, "I am the way." It's not about following a set of rules or instructions, but about a relationship with Him. It's a relationship that leads to peace, joy, and the ultimate purpose we've been searching for.
We often try to solve problems with our own formulas – steps to a better marriage, a career, or even a more peaceful life. But Jesus is inviting us to something different: a relationship with Him. He is not just a sign or a set of steps. He is the way, the path that leads us to everything we need.
Pray With Us!
Jesus, thank you for being the way in the midst of confusion. Help me to stop trying to figure everything out on my own and instead trust You as my guide. I know I don't always need a roadmap – I need You. Lead me in Your ways today. Amen.
Let's Reflect:
When you think about Jesus being "the way," what does that mean for you in your daily life? Can you recall a time when you were "lost" but found your way back through a closer relationship with Jesus? What's one area of your life where you've been trying to "figure out the steps" instead of leaning into Jesus as "the way"?
