I Am the Resurrection | Therefore I Am
Have you ever wondered why God allows suffering? Why does it feel like He doesn't show up when we need Him most? This is a question many of us ask in times of deep pain and confusion. Whether it's a loss, an unanswered prayer, or a tragic event, suffering can leave us feeling abandoned and questioning God's love for us.
But in the middle of all that pain, Jesus offers us something profound: "I am the resurrection and the life." (John 11:25). These words are spoken in the middle of the most heart-wrenching scene in the Bible—Lazarus has died, and his sisters, Mary and Martha, are devastated. Jesus, knowing what He was about to do, still weeps with them. Why? Because He understands the pain we go through and He's not indifferent to it. He doesn't just stand outside of our suffering; He enters into it with us.
Jesus' statement, "I am the resurrection and the life," is powerful. It's not just that He will give resurrection and life one day; He is the resurrection and life. He is the source of all hope, the answer to our most desperate questions. His resurrection is the first of many, and it assures us that one day, all suffering and death will be undone. But He also offers us life now—life that is abundant, full of purpose, and rooted in His love.
When Jesus called Lazarus out of the grave, it wasn't just a physical resurrection—it was a preview of the spiritual transformation He offers all of us. We don't have to wait for eternity to experience His life; we can experience the joy, peace, and hope He offers even in the midst of hardship.
Reflecting on this truth can change the way we see our current struggles: Jesus weeps with us. He understands our pain and He's not distant from it. When we suffer, He suffers with us. There's purpose in the pain. Jesus allowed Lazarus to die so that He could show the glory of God. Sometimes, God uses our pain to bring about something greater than we can see at the moment. The resurrection is both a future hope and a present reality. Yes, one day death will be defeated, but today, we can live with the peace and freedom that comes from knowing Jesus is the resurrection and the life.
Pray with me!
Jesus, thank You for being the resurrection and the life. Thank You for entering into our pain and offering us hope and life even in the midst of our struggles. Help me to trust that You are with me, even when I don't understand why things happen. Teach me to live with the hope of the resurrection, knowing that You have conquered death and are making all things new. In Jesus' name, Amen.
Let's Reflect:
How do you feel when you face pain and suffering? Do you believe Jesus weeps with you in your pain? Have you experienced God bringing something good out of a painful situation? How did you see God's hand in it? How does knowing Jesus is both the resurrection and the life change the way you approach your daily life?
