Help My Unbelief | Fight the Good Fight
Faith is one of the most important parts of our relationship with God.
It is how we begin our journey with Jesus. It is what steadies us when life feels uncertain. It is what enables us to receive what God's grace has already provided.
And yet, if we're honest, faith can feel surprisingly fragile.
There are seasons when trusting God feels natural and strong. We feel confident, hopeful, and certain that nothing is impossible. But there are other seasons when our faith feels thin—when suffering, disappointment, unanswered prayers, or the pressures of life leave us wondering if we can keep believing.
That's why the prayer of one desperate father resonates so deeply: "I do believe; help my unbelief."
What a beautiful and honest prayer.
It acknowledges both faith and struggle. Confidence and doubt. Trust and uncertainty. And Jesus responds with compassion.
The good news is that faith does not depend on how impressive it feels.
Scripture says God has given each of us a measure of faith. You already have what you need to trust Him today. And Jesus reminds us that even faith as small as a mustard seed can move mountains.
Why? Because the power is not in the size of our faith, but in the greatness of our God.
When our view of God grows, our faith grows with it.
Faith is choosing to trust God's promises even when our circumstances seem unclear. It is pouring out the little we have into the "rusty pump" of God's Word and believing that His promises really do work.
So if your faith feels strong today, thank God.
If your faith feels weak, take heart.
You do not need perfect faith. You simply need to bring the faith you have to a God who is infinitely trustworthy.
And as you do, He will meet you with strength, peace, and the grace to keep walking forward.
Reflection Questions
1. In what area of your life are you currently praying, "I do believe; help my unbelief"? 2. How does it encourage you to know that the strength of your faith depends more on the size of your God than the size of your faith? 3. What is one practical way you can choose to trust God's promises this week, even if you feel uncertain?
Prayer
Father, thank You that You are patient with me when my faith feels weak. I believe, and I ask You to help my unbelief. Expand my vision of who You are and remind me that You are greater than every challenge I face. Strengthen my heart to trust Your promises, even when I cannot see the outcome. Teach me to walk by faith and not by sight, confident that You are faithful in every season. Amen.
