Rise Above Your Fear
Have you ever needed just one more sign before you could believe?
Gideon did. Even after God called him a mighty warrior, even after fire consumed his offering from a bare rock, Gideon still wasn't sure. So he laid out a fleece and asked for dew on the wool but dry ground around it. God gave it to him. Then, almost sheepishly, Gideon asked again — this time for the opposite. Dry fleece, wet ground. And God, patiently, gave him that too.
What's remarkable isn't that Gideon needed convincing. It's that God never once got tired of convincing him. Gideon is still listed in the Hall of Faith in Hebrews 11 — not because his fear disappeared, but because he eventually moved anyway. God's patience with our hesitation is bigger than we usually give Him credit for.
But confirmation was only the beginning. God had gifts for Gideon to use — real, tangible strength for a real, tangible calling. Every good and perfect gift comes from God, and He doesn't hand them out so they can sit unused. Supernatural gifts, serving gifts, everyday abilities — they're all meant to move.
Before Gideon could step fully into what God had for him, though, there was something to tear down. Literally. God told him to destroy his father's altar to a false god and build a proper one in its place. Gideon obeyed — but he did it at night, because he was afraid of what his family and neighbors would say. Notice that: he was still afraid, and he still obeyed. Sometimes courage doesn't wait for fear to leave the room first. Sometimes you just do it scared.
And then there was the source behind it all. "Not by might nor by power, but by my Spirit, says the Lord." Gideon's real strength was never his own. Neither is yours. Whatever pressure you've been carrying to produce results in your own power was never meant to be yours to carry.
Maybe today you're waiting for one more sign, or you know there's an old altar in your life that needs to come down, or you're simply tired and afraid. Take heart — God isn't waiting for your fear to disappear before He uses you. He's already given you gifts to use, a Spirit to empower you, and favor going ahead of you into rooms you haven't even walked into yet.

What "altar" — a habit, a fear, a hidden pattern — do you sense needs to come down in your life, even if you have to do it scared?
Where have you been relying on your own strength instead of the Spirit's power?
Prayer
Lord, thank You for meeting me in my uncertainty instead of walking away from it. Thank You for the gifts You've placed in me and for the Spirit who empowers me to do what I could never do alone. Give me courage to tear down what needs to go, even while I'm afraid, and to trust that Your favor is already going ahead of me. Not by my might, but by Your Spirit. In Jesus' name, amen.
