Legacy | Because of U
Some days life feels less like a peaceful walk with Jesus and more like you got dropped into a marathon you did not officially sign up for. Shoes untied. No warm-up. Hills everywhere.
Hebrews 12 reminds us we're not running alone: "Since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses… let us run with endurance the race set before us, fixing our eyes on Jesus…"
Picture it: the stands of heaven packed. Moses, David, Paul, your praying grandma, that mentor who helped you take your first steps with Jesus—leaning over the rail, cheering you on. Not as critics. Not as compare-ers. As witnesses saying, "Hey… we made it by God's grace. You can too."
And that's really what legacy is: not fame, not followers, not being "the big deal." Legacy is simply this—because of God's grace at work in you, somebody else will believe it's possible to keep going.
The notes talk about three simple words: Grace, Grind, and Grit. Grace is where it all starts: keeping your eyes on Jesus, the One who started your faith and promises to finish it. You don't have to be the hero of your own story. You're not carrying the weight of the world—He is. That takes the pressure off. Grind is the quiet, daily faithfulness: choosing to lay aside the distractions, showing up when no one's clapping, doing the small obedience that no one posts on Instagram. Reading your Bible again. Showing up to serve again. Loving your family again. Grit is deciding, "I'm not quitting," even when it would be completely reasonable to tap out. Storms come. Grief happens. Plans sink like Shackleton's ship. But by God's power, you keep taking one more step. And one day, those steps will preach louder than any sermon.
Here's the wild part: right now, you're running because of someone else's faithfulness. One day, someone will run because of you. You'll be part of their "cloud." They'll say, "I saw her trust God when life fell apart." "I watched him keep serving when no one noticed." "Because of them, I believed God could use me too."
You don't have to be perfect to leave a legacy. You just have to keep your eyes on Jesus, keep showing up, and keep not quitting. Grace. Grind. Grit.
Let's Reflect:
Who's in your "cloud of witnesses"—the people whose faith and endurance have helped you believe it's possible to follow Jesus for the long haul? Where do you sense God inviting you into a little more grind right now—one simple, consistent habit of obedience or faithfulness? Is there an area where you've felt like giving up? What might grit look like there this week, trusting that Jesus is the One who started and will finish your story?
Pray With Me!
Lord Jesus, thank You for the people who went before me—family, friends, leaders, and heroes of the faith who showed me what it looks like to trust You. Help me fix my eyes on You, not on my own strength. Teach me to live by Your grace, to be faithful in the daily grind, and to keep going with grit when things get hard. Make my life a quiet, steady "yes" to You, so that because of You working in me, someone else will find courage to run their race. In Your name I pray, amen.
