I Am Who You Say I Am
Identity Crisis | Week Two
"But what about you?" he asked. "Who do you say I am?" — Matthew 16:15
In a world of shifting identities and societal pressures, it's vital to know who we truly are. Just as Jesus asked his disciples, "Who do you say I am?", we are prompted to consider our own identity.
We often find our identity is shaped by various factors—our associations, actions, nature, and nurture. But beneath these layers lies our true identity in Christ.
Paul's journey in Philippians illustrates the futility of self-reliance. Despite his achievements, he found true worth in knowing Christ and receiving His righteousness through faith.
How to Embrace Your Identity in Christ: 1. From Sinner to Saint: In Christ, we are transformed from sinners to saints, defined by His righteousness. 2. Turn to, Not From: Christianity is about journeying with Jesus, turning towards God as we grow in understanding. 3. Not Do, but Done: We rest in Christ's finished work, receiving salvation and freedom as gifts.
Respond to the call of Christ, embracing your true identity in Him. Walk confidently as a beloved child of God, set free by His love and grace.
Prayer
Heavenly Father, thank you for our identity in Christ. Help us to walk confidently in this truth, resting in your love and grace. Amen.
Reflection
Reflect on the various factors that have influenced your understanding of your identity. How have associations, actions, nature, and nurture shaped your self-perception? Consider Paul's journey in Philippians and his shift from self-reliance to finding worth in knowing Christ. How can you apply this lesson to your own life and journey of faith? Take a moment to ponder the concept of resting in Christ's finished work. How does embracing the truth of salvation as a gift impact your understanding of your identity and your relationship with God?
