How to Start the New Year Right

Do you have regrets from bad decisions you made last year? Do you find yourself feeling worried or anxious about the year ahead?  One of our biggest issues is that we don’t have strength for today because we use it up on yesterday’s regrets or tomorrow’s worries.

We will equip you with three steps to help you meet today’s challenges with today’s strength.

Release the Past – You only have a certain amount of energy every day. Wasting it on past regrets is not a wise investment. We have to let go of what others have done and what we have done.

Forget the former things; do not dwell on the past. Isaiah 43:18 NIV

Resist the Future – It’s important to plan for the future but we must resist the energy drain that comes from preoccupation with future fears and worry. The future may seem uncertain and uncontrollable. But here are two undeniable truths about your future:

  1. God knows everything

Nothing in all creation is hidden from God’s sight. Everything is uncovered and laid bare before the eyes of him to whom we must give account. Hebrews 4:13 NIV

  1. God has a plan

For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future. Jeremiah 29:11 NIV

Live Joyfully in the Moment – This is the only way to truly live. God wants you to enjoy this life and to rest in his provision. He is Jehovah Jireh – the God who sees the future and makes provision today.

Give your entire attention to what God is doing right now, and don’t get worked up about what may or may not happen tomorrow. God will help you deal with whatever hard things come up when the time comes. Matthew 6:34 the Message

When you rest in God’s daily provision, he will guide you and help you to do the right thing in each moment.

Here, at the beginning of this near year, it doesn’t matter what you’ve done, the decisions you’ve made in the past or the worry you lived with last year. You can have a fresh start today.
