The To-do List vs. The Dream

Oh, the hustle and bustle of being a 21st century woman! Where does the time go? The to-do list seems to never end and lunch with a friend never seems to happen. Where did this long laundry list of expectations for my life come? Ugh! Surely, this isn’t what God created me for!

Yet I always seem to find that another day has passed and I didn’t take a moment to ask God what He had planned for me. My plans for the day were well thought out and each task was accomplished, but I didn’t get any closer to my dream. The dream I know God has placed in my heart. The dream He has whispered during my quiet times with Him. The dream I can’t seem to shake when I wake up or go to sleep. Why didn’t I just take that item off my list and replace it with a dream step?

So, the questions is, “What shall we do tomorrow when the alarm wakes our restful sleep reminding us that another busy day has just begun?” Will our laundry list of to-do’s take precedent over the dreams we have, yet again? No, not today! God created you for a purpose and placed you in this space of history to leave a mark for the generations to come. All you have to do is say, “Yes!”

I know, it’s easier said than done, especially when we are faced with school, work, crying babies, or an endless sea of dishes. But, those things will be taken care of, I promise. You are a woman who has been crafted by the master designer for such a time as this. He has given you talents, gifts, and ideas that He longs for you to pour out on the world around you. Take hold of it today, one task at a time. You’ll be surprised to find that God will supply you with enough time to cook dinner and spend with friends. Walking out the dreams God has for you is a sweet spot like no other.

So tonight, as you snuggle up in your bed hearing those sweet whispers of a dream again we can’t seem to shake, make a promise to yourself and God that tomorrow’s list will be a new one! One, which reflects a dream-step that will carry you into your destiny becoming the woman you were created to be!

Lots to do tomorrow - check
Task list - check
Dream step - (deep breath) - check!
Thanks for giving me permission to pursue the dream! I need to hear this today!

Right on time Heather!! With back to school, this activity, or that sometimes we get so caught up in doing so much we forget to "REST" in Him. Or we use activity to put on the back burner what God has placed in our heart... sometimes it may be so much bigger than we are!

Love the thought of taking a dream step. Sometimes I think the first step is to take time to dream. Great job Heather!

Thank you Heather. This was a confirmation for me to stop and take time to remember what God has put in my heart that I have been wanting to do. This is a reminder. I have to remember to say and remind myself that as it is written in Proverbs 3:2-- For length of days and long life and peace they will add to you. When I speak this, it is so amazing how much time I have and it is extended! And I am also reminded of 2 Cor 8:10 & 11-- And in this I give advice: It is to your advantage not only to be doing what you began and were desiring to do a year ago; but now you also must complete the doing of it; that as there was a readiness to desire it, so there also may be a completion out of what you have. This was the scripture I fell upon when I opened up my Bible. So, the time is now and the time is right. I have lots to do and will make the time for God first and foremost and the rest will happen!

And don't feel guilty leaving the "to'do list" behind. Great job.

Great article, Heather! You are right on point with making the dream step a priority. We can be checking off our to-do list and meeting all types of goals, but then waking up and finding out we are not heading in any direction. Sometimes those little tasks are a distraction for the ultimate plan God has for our lives. As the Shoreline Women say, "Walk it out!" What are we waiting for?

My Heather, I love you and I accept this challenge! Being a busy bee is overrated and not the best way to stay in shape physically, mentally, or spiritually. Off to dreamland I go my friend.
