Event Name: Step Up, Step Out, Get Prepared is based on the “Preparing for Adolescence: How to Survive the Coming Years of Change”series by Dr. James Dobson. It’s a 10-session course that is designed to help students, ages 10-14, prepare for their teenage years. This course is to assist parents as they direct their preteens along the way. Children of the preadolescent age group need to be instructed concerning the physiological changes in adolescence, followed by instruction in values associated with cognitive, psycho-social, and spiritual growth.
During this course students will cover the following topics:
A. How to handle feelings of inferiority
B. How to develop self-confidence
C. How to handle group pressure to conform
D. How to say no to drugs and alcohol
E. Physical and sexual development (only by parental permission)
F. The meaning of real love
G. How to handle emotions
H. How to make sound decisions
I. Understanding normal independence
J. Basics of self-identity
Cost: $20.00 includes class workbook (To cover in-class material, certificate of class completion and memento of completion for pledge ceremony at end of session on May 30th). Parents may purchase a parent’s workbook as well in the Shoreline Bookstore.
Mandatory Parent Meeting (at least one or both parents and child) – March 7th 6:00pm Alpha Room in Children's Building. A permission slip is required for Lesson 5.
