Invite Sunday
Socially, having an invitation can be important. If I invite you over to my home for dinner we call that a "dinner party.” In contrast, if you come to my house and eat when I am not there, that is more like “breaking and entering.” When your name is on the list for a party, you are referred to as a “guest.” However, if your name is not listed, you are called a "party crasher.”
Some invitations hold more value than others. For example: an invitation to be part of the “jelly of the month” club may be seen as junk mail, yet the invitation to celebrate a friend’s birthday is more than welcome. The timing of an invitation can be just as crucial. A well-timed invitation allows for you to be sure to attend. Sadly, some invitations arrive too late and we have already made other plans, or the event has already taken place and we were left unaware.
Our perception of what stands as a valid invitation can vary from one group to the next. For some, a verbal invitation is enough, for others, it needs to be in writing.
Perceptions about invitations can even affect people who attend church. There are those that see the posting of service times as a clear invitation to attend, but others do not feel truly invited until someone asks them. For some it is all about the timing and others it’s simply important to be socially clear.
With all this in mind, take a look around you and make sure the people in your world know they are invited to attend church with you. Our Homecoming service on Aug 29th is the perfect opportunity to extend an invitation. You might be surprised who is just waiting for you to tell them Jesus has invited them to His celebration.

Shoreline Leadership College Expands: Learn how you can be a part.
Enrolling soon for Fall 2010!!
In the Fall of 2009 we began to dream of a new discipleship program for Shoreline. Shoreline Leadership College empowers a new generation of leaders to unveil God’s love to a broken world. Young people devote a year of their lives to learning how to hear God’s voice, serving in the local church and community, and receiving valuable training and direction for their lives.
As we got the word out about our full-time program, there was also a demand for a part-time option. So we have also created a part-time option for Shoreline Leadership College beginning this September!
In our first year, we’ve been busy! Our students provided disaster relief in Nashville, participated with several programs in the Round Rock School district, helped feed 100,000 orphans at the Heartwork lunch packing event and additionally provided support to Shoreline services and the pastoral care team. Shoreline Leadership College students also received training from the pastoral team, Shoreline leaders, personalized growth plans, and visiting professors. Students from the first year are set to graduate July 28th!
“I would definitely recommend going to Shoreline Leadership College! Through every experience, and opportunity, it has taught me to truly/fully rely on a God who so passionately loves me. It taught me how to study, teach, and live the way God intended me to do so. It is definitely something I won’t forget.”
Moving forward, we will launch our part-time Monday night classes on September 6th. Our part-time classes will serve Shoreline by deepening the leadership cores of our various ministries. Students will get to participate in classes with Shoreline staff and leaders, as well as gain access to Pastor Rob’s leadership classes on Tuesday mornings and monthly Staff Chapels.
If this sounds like an opportunity you would be interested in participating in, please visit shoreline.net/leadershipcollege, click the registration link, and sign up there! That’s it! Now is the time to take that step of faith and prepare to gain some essential tools to become the leader that God has destined for you to be!

Get in the Game
Think of your favorite team. How many times have you wanted to be out there, helping them win the game, score that touchdown or winning goal? Or maybe you have wanted to be the coach, making that critical call, or the trainer in charge of getting the players back out onto the field.
At some point we have all wanted to be on a team. We aren’t wired to sit back and watch. While you may not have a position on your favorite sports team, there is a team you have been strategically crafted for and there is a position open for you. In fact, it’s really not the same without you. It would be like the Lakers with out their MVP, Kobe Bryant!
I remember when my husband and I were called off the bench and into the game by Pastor Melvin Lee. We were faithful attendees, happy to sit back and watch, but at the same time we felt like something was missing. We couldn’t quite put our finger on it until we got a taste of it – we weren’t in the game!
If you haven’t yet stepped into an area to serve and make a difference, I encourage you to go for it! Find a place to use your God given gifts and talents – whether it’s hosting a small group, rocking babies, ministering to children, answering prayer phone lines, setting up cones or driving a shuttle; there are many wonderful options, and all have tremendous value for the team. As many people as we see each week serving in the different areas, there is still a great need for you to be a part of the team.
Now is the time! We are calling you into the game. Your position will fill you with an increased sense of purpose as you discover the true joy of unveiling God’s love through serving.
