Messed up thoughts lead to a messed up life, while healthy thoughts lead to a healthy life. Did you know what is happening in your mind is important to God?
Therefore, I urge you, brothers and sisters, in view of God’s mercy, to offer your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and pleasing to God—this is your true and proper worship. Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will. Romans 12:1-2 NIV
We must renew our minds if we want to experience transformation. Here’s how we go about it:
Recognize Negative Mindsets – It’s not easy to recognize our own messed up thoughts. We see the negative mindset in others, but we can fool ourselves. Here are a few things to consider. Check how your talk to yourself. What is your internal dialogue like? Check how you talk with others. Are your conversations filled with doubt, worry and fear? Check your moods. We all have feelings and there are appropriate and inappropriate expressions of our feelings. Once we recognize a negative mindset, we have to do something about it!
Reject Negatives Mindsets – You have the power to reject negative mindsets. God loved you and I so much, he gave us the power to chose. And if you can choose, you can change.
This day I call the heavens and the earth as witnesses against you that I have set before you life and death, blessings and curses. Now choose life, so that you and your children may live Deuteronomy 30:19 NIV
You have the power to choose. Choose what you think about, what you meditate on and what you focus on. It’s not enough to get rid of bad thinking, you have to replace it with healthy thinking.
Replace Negative Mindsets – The best remedy for bad thinking is good thinking! You keep your mind off the things you don’t want by keeping it on what you do want. If you fill your mind with positive thoughts, your negative thoughts will be like a car looking for a parking place at the mall during Christmas. The parking lot is full and there is no place for negative thoughts to settle in.
God is in the business of transformation. Isn’t it good to know that you can change? You can renew your mind!
