How to Build Your life on the Word of God

The Word of God is powerful – so powerful that years ago, religious leaders opposed translating the Bible into the language of the people. They know the Bible would bring freedom to the masses. In response, the pioneers of the reformation cried out for only grace, only Christ, only faith, only the glory of God and only scripture.

The Word of God is a treasure. It is the foundation we can build our lives on.

Every part of Scripture is God-breathed and useful one way or another—showing us truth, exposing our rebellion, correcting our mistakes, training us to live God’s way. 2 Timothy 3:16 The Message

The Bible is God-breathed. It is the life breath that flowed out of his heart through human authors to us. It is living and active and there is nothing quite like it. God wants us to read it, believe it, meditate on it, memorize it, speak it and act on it.

How do you build your life on the Word of God?

Use it to see God’s love  – The whole book points to Jesus. The Bible is a story of God’s great love manifest in the gift of his Son. Through Jesus something happened that changed the world forever. We were all held captive to sin but Jesus paid our ransom and we are free.

Use it as spiritual food – The Word of God is described as milk, meat, bread and honey. It provides the spiritual nourishment that we need to flourish in our daily lives.

Use it as a guide – The Bible is the field manual for life. There is so much wisdom in this one book, wisdom we can build a life on. Through the Word of God we learn how to live with integrity. We discover the pathway to joy, peace and love. It guides us in relationships, in business and in leadership. Through the Bible you’ll learn how to live for God’s glory.

Use it to discover the promise – The Bible is full of God’s promises. One scholar counted and found 30,000 promises. God is faithful to his word. As you discover the promises of God and put your trust in him, peace will saturate your heart and mind.

Use it as a sword – There are forces on the earth that oppose us. Ephesians 6 describes the life of the believer as spiritual warfare. We are encouraged to put on armor to defend and protect ourselves. But we are also instructed to pick up the sword of the Spirit, which is the Word of God.  Something supernatural happens when we speak God’s word.

Use it as a mirror – The Word of God is like a mirror. It reflects back to us the truth of who we are and how we are made. You may not feel like a son or daughter of God. You may not feel like an overcomer. You may not feel like a new creation. But if you look in the mirror of God’s word you will see that you are.

The Bible is not an ordinary book. It is alive and powerful. It is transformational. And God wrote it so you could build your life on it
