Be strong and of good courage, for to this people you shall divide as an inheritance the land which I swore to their fathers to give them. Only be strong and very courageous, that you may observe to do according to all the law which Moses My servant commanded you; do not turn from it to the right hand or to the left, that you may prosper wherever you go. Have I not commanded you? Be strong and of good courage; do not be afraid, nor be dismayed, for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go.” Joshua 1: 6,7,9 KJV
It takes courage to step into the future God has for you. It takes courage to believe and courage to follow. So how do you get the courage you need?
Trust that God is with you and for you – In verse nine above, God answers the “how?” of living with courage. You can be strong and not give in to fear knowing that God is always with you. You are never alone. God is with you; and he is for you. If you ever doubt that God is on your side, just remember the cross. God so loved the world – that includes you!
Turn and face your fear – More often that not, our fears on only a mirage. They may look solid but they are as flimsy as the paper football players run through. When you run from fears, they cast an even bigger shadow. When you face your fears, they diffuse. Courage will blossom every time you step up to face your fear.
Transfer courage to each other – The word encourage literally means to transfer courage. You have courage someone else needs. They have courage you need. We can encourage each other. (Hebrews 10:24-25)
Speak words of courage – As God was commissioning Joshua he challenged him to speak words of life, words of faith, God’s words.
Keep this Book of the Law always on your lips; meditate on it day and night, so that you may be careful to do everything written in it. Then you will be prosperous and successful. Joshua 1:8 NIV
We all face a tendency to fear – for our families, our dreams, our resources, our future. We need courage now and now, you know how to get it!
