Supernatural – Expect a miracle

Decked out in their 1970’s polyester finest, the Oral Roberts television show singers would smile into the camera and say, “Something good is going to happen to you this very day…” He challenged people to expect a miracle.

What about you? Will you dare to believe that something good is coming? That a miracle is on its way to you?

Our God is a God of miracles. Remember the lion’s den, the fiery furnace, the loaves and fishes?  The Bible is full of unexplainable events. We believe God is still doing the miraculous today.

Sometimes we miss our miracle because:

  • It doesn’t come the way we want
  • We think what we have is too small for God to work with
  • It doesn’t come on our timing
  • We are blinded to the possibility of a miracle in the midst of the storm
  • It comes from something or someone too close
  • We’ve lost our sense of expectancy

There was a desperate woman in the days of Elisha. Creditors were calling. Her family was about to be torn apart. But God did a miracle with the one thing she had left in her house. What do you have in your house, in your hands? Expect God to do something supernatural.

Affirmation: I will recapture a heart of expectancy.

2 Kings 4:1-7 The wife of a man from the company of the prophets cried out to Elisha, “Your servant my husband is dead, and you know that he revered the Lord. But now his creditor is coming to take my two boys as his slaves.” Elisha replied to her, “How can I help you? Tell me, what do you have in your house?” “Your servant has nothing there at all,” she said, “except a small jar of olive oil.” Elisha said, “Go around and ask all your neighbors for empty jars. Don’t ask for just a few.  Then go inside and shut the door behind you and your sons. Pour oil into all the jars, and as each is filled, put it to one side.” She left him and shut the door behind her and her sons. They brought the jars to her and she kept pouring. When all the jars were full, she said to her son, “Bring me another one.” But he replied, “There is not a jar left.” Then the oil stopped flowing. She went and told the man of God, and he said, “Go, sell the oil and pay your debts. You and your sons can live on what is left.”

Supernatural – Armed and ready

A battle wages in the supernatural, but we have protection.  Covered in the full armor of God, we are outfitted for victory.

Belt of Truth – A belt holds everything else in place. Jesus said I am the way, the truth and the life. Jesus IS the truth! You are in a relationship of love and trust with Jesus, wrap that around your waist and fasten securely.

Breastplate of Righteousness – God took our sins and placed them on Jesus. He took his righteousness and gave it to us.  We have right standing with God.  We cannot earn it and we certainly don’t deserve it. Righteousness is a gift. Protect your heart by understanding your new identity in Christ.

Gospel of Peace Shoes – Wherever you walk, bring with you the good news of great joy, peace on earth and good will toward man. Be prepared to share God’s love.  Be open to sharing your redemption story. Walk boldly.

Shield of Faith – Faith is the confident assurance that reaches beyond our five senses. It doesn’t need to know how or understand when. Faith never stops believing and will protect you on every side.

Helmet of Salvation – Our thoughts lead to feelings and feelings determine actions. If you want to think right, feel right and ultimately act right, you have to protect your mind.  Let the salvation experience transform the way you think. You are worthy of great love and sacrifice!

Sword of the Spirit – The Word of God is your weapon. It is alive and powerful. There is a promise in the Bible for whatever battle you may face.

Affirmation: I will put on the full armor of God

Comments: We want to hear from you: Which piece of armor are you most familiar with? Which piece will you put on this week?

Ephesians 6:13-17   Therefore put on the full armor of God, so that when the day of evil comes, you may be able to stand your ground, and after you have done everything, to stand. Stand firm then, with the belt of truth buckled around your waist, with the breastplate of righteousness in place, and with your feet fitted with the readiness that comes from the gospel of peace. In addition to all this, take up the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one. Take the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God.

Supernatural – Aw hell no

When it comes to thinking about hell, we have one word for you – NO!

No –Don’t go

Hell was created for the devil and his fallen angels.  The enemy would like to take as many people with him as he can. But the Bible tells us God is patient. He loves the world he created and every person in it. He wants everyone to receive the free gift of his grace and everlasting life.

No –Make it hard for others to go

As Jesus’ life on earth came to a close he commissioned his followers to go and tell the good news. It’s not enough to be content with the good God has done for us. We need to tell others about his love and welcome them into God’s family.

No –Make sure hell does not prevail in life

The kingdom of heaven is founded on two things, righteousness and justice. Righteousness means we are restored to right relationship with God. Justice is making what’s wrong with the world right.  We can bring heaven’s definition of justice to the world around us by confronting injustice and bringing a little taste of heaven to earth.

Affirmation:  I won’t be going to hell, I’ll make it hard for anyone else to go and I’ll make sure hell does not prevail in life

2 Peter 3:9 The Lord is not slow in keeping his promise, as some understand slowness. Instead he is patient with you, not wanting anyone to perish, but everyone to come to repentance.

Mark 16:15 And then he (Jesus) told them, “Go into all the world and preach the Good News to everyone.

Psalm 89:14 Righteousness and justice are the foundation of your throne; love and faithfulness go before you.

Supernatural – Heaven is my home

Some days are full of wonder, joy and the best this life can offer. Some days are longer than others, dragging on hour by hour, minute by minute, moment by relentless moment.

Low level discontent nags at the human heart and we find ourselves thinking, there has to be more to life than this.  Is God the author of our longing?

Throughout human history, every culture and every religion has some sort of belief in life after death. Fascinating, isn’t it?  The Bible says in Ecclesiastes 3:11 “God has planted eternity in the human heart.” We were wired this way – aching for more, hoping for Heaven.

Heaven is God’s home. Have you heard that Jesus is preparing a place for you in the Father’s house? He is a carpenter after all.  He’s always adding on, knocking down walls, building out and making space. Preparing a place for you.

Home is where we let our hair down. It’s where we grow our families and welcome our friends. Home is where we reunite with those we love. Home is connection, contentment and comfort.

So when you find yourself dissatisfied, discontent or disconnected, remember that heaven is your home. There IS more to life than our experience on earth!

Affirmation: I will embrace fully and daily that heaven is my destiny.
Comments: We want to hear from you, use the comments below. What factor or feeling of home are you longing for? How does the thought of heaven comfort you?

John 14:2-3 In My Father’s house are many mansions; if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you. And if I go and prepare a place for you,I will come again and receive you to Myself; that where I am, there you may be also.

I Thessalonians 4:13-1417-18 And now, dear brothers and sisters, we want you to know what will happen to the believers who have died so you will not grieve like people who have no hope.  For since we believe that Jesus died and was raised to life again, we also believe that when Jesus returns, God will bring back with him the believers who have died…Then, together with them, we who are still alive and remain on the earth will be caught up in the clouds to meet the Lordi n the air. Then we will be with the Lord forever. So encourage each other with these words.

Supernatural – God is good, the devil is bad

God is not the author of tragedy, sickness and trouble. He is not the author of your pain. It is so important to know that God is good, and the giver of all good things. But it’s equally important to know there is a real enemy. The devil is real.

Jesus called him the thief and gave us his M.O. The thief comes to steal, kill and destroy. That’s what he does. If you could choose one word to describe the devil and how he does what he does it would be deception.

·        He is a liar and the father of lies.

·        He prowls around like a roaring lion, using intimidation and fear.

·        He masquerades as an angel of light.

·        He plants doubt in the good character of God

The devil is a deceiver. His offers are appealing but they are loaded with devastating consequences. We don’t have to fall prey to his lies. Jesus destroyed the enemy!

Through his death and resurrection Jesus defeated death, hell and the grave. The devil is a defeated foe. The Bible tells us to resist him and he will flee.

Resist his lies. Resist intimidation. Resist the deceptive offers. Resist his strategy to defame God’s good character.

God is good, all the time!

Affirmation: When I resist the devil, he will flee.

Comment:  We want to hear from you, use the comments below. How do you resist the devil and his schemes?

John 10:10 The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full.

Revelation 1:18  I am the living one. I died, but look—I am alive forever and ever! And I hold the keys of death and the grave.

James 4:7 Submit yourselves, then, to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.

Supernatural – Angels among us

Practical and often skeptical, we Westerners are a proof-seeking bunch. We like charts, graphs and hard data. We want the facts ma’am, just the facts. Sure, there is a fraction of our population that is curious about the unseen. But many land on the mantra: I’ll believe it when I see it.

As we begin our six week series on the supernatural, we realize it’s a stretch for some of you but it’s a good stretch, the kind that will expand your world.

We are leading with the idea that we are not alone; there are indeed angels among us. Through angelic encounters recorded in the Bible we learn a lot about why they are here:

·        Their first priority is to worship God

·        They give direction and deliver messages

·        They protect, serve and fight for us

·        They are personal

·        They carry us as we transition to heaven

In one example, we find the prophet Elisha surrounded by the enemy and yet oddly at peace while his servant is freaking out.  What his servant couldn’t see was an even bigger army of angels surrounding the enemy. Elisha replied, “Those who are with us are more than those who are with them.” (2 Kings 6:16) His position of rest and peace was found in the assurance that there is a mighty angelic host and they are WITH US even when we cannot see them with our eyes.

Affirmation:I will rest in the knowledge that we are not alone

Comment:  We want to hear from you, use the comments below.  The Bible tells us we can encounter angels without knowing it. What do you think? Have you ever had an angelic encounter that you were unaware of at the time?

2 Corinthians 4:18 So we fix our eyes not on what is seen, but on what is unseen, since what is seen is temporary, but what is unseen is eternal.

Hebrews 1:14 Are not all angels ministering spirits sent to serve (care for) those who will inherit salvation?

Hebrews 13:2 Do not forget to show hospitality to strangers, for by so doing some people have shown hospitality to angels without knowing it.
